Subject: UNBELIEVABLE!..Tanya congatulated me on the birth of my son at this show
I met Throwing Muses in 1989 after the I-beam show in San francisco. I was working at Community foods in Santa cruz and Leslie langston was one of the original co-op members. During a break in the show leslie said " thanks for staying up late on a worknight" to the audience and I said "I got the day off from Community foods" and she bent down and chatted with me about it, promising to come and get me after the show. She did and I became friends with the whole band staying up all night partying, going to the next 2 nights shows (Berkeley and San Jose) and being backstage both nights. we were so appreciative of them we bought a weird gift for the final night...a taoster and a loaf of bread with a card that said 'a kitchen is a place where you prepare and clean up'(from hate my way)...made them all laugh and we all had toast!
We were in touch for a few years and they finally came to Santa Cruz in 1991 10 days before my son was born(just like Kristin) and before cottenmouth Tanya congradulates me!
This show was so old school...so awesome I just wish it was higher quality recording.
My 15 year old son thinks Throwing Muses are really cool!

Subject: Just like I remember it
I happened to be at the Catalyst that night. And this fine recording brought it all back.

When you listen to it you have to picture Kristen Hersh incredibly pregnant with her guitar pushed out a baby's length away from her body, rocking (hard.)

Giant thanks to markp for preserving this one for the ages.

Subject: Setlist addition
Great show, I recorded this tour in Boston but with a low fi rig, so this is a very welcome addition to my collection. The band really went out on a high with this record and tour.
There are 2 songs not listed in the setlist, both are part of an existing track. Revised setlist is as follows:
1. Dylan / Soul Soldier / Golden Thing
2 Counting Backwards
3. Red Shoes
4. Not Too Soon
5. Devil's Roof
6. Soap & Water
7. Finished pt. 1
8. Finished pt. 2
9. Cottonmouth
10.Him Dancing
11.Honeychain
12.Dragonhead
13.Colder
14.Ellen West

Subject: very good!
Excellent performance from the queens of the "alt-rock" scene, and an outstanding, first-rate recording. Hard to believe it's an aud; I've heard plenty of sbds that didn't sound this good. Kudos to Kristen and krew for opening up their music to their fans! If this doesn't help make some new True Believers, then there's something wrong with you people! :)

Download this show. You won't regret it.

2nd edit: with track 15 finally available in full, this show deserves a full five stars.

Subject: Say Goodbye gone?
This show is very good on all counts, considering it was made on a cassette recorder in 1991. Certainly captures the feel of the show.

However, I have a problem with track 15. After downloading it twice the same "end of stream" error occurs when decoding. Has anyone else had the same trouble? I have a feeling the flac file is not complete - it is only 1.2 MB - too small to be an entire song. I filed an error report but just in case markp, the taper/uploader, reads this - can you re-upload it please?

Otherwise, thanks for the Muses! I can't wait to see more of this great band here.

Lovely. Must have been one of the last gigs with both Kristin and Tanya playing. Good recording too - no tape hiss, although maybe the recording does not pick up the intensity of their sound on stage?

Really one of the best indie bands of the late 80's and Kristin remains one of my favourite lyricists ever coupled with this soul effecting, dirty voice. The set is based around The Real Ramona - a definite classic and this recording captures the sound of the band well although the mix could perhaps have lent a bit more muscle to the individual parts.

The highlights are Soap & Water, Garoux Des Larmes/Mania (uncredited beginning of track 16), Hook In Her Head plus a rare opportunity to hear Tanya sing Honeychain and Not Too Soon live.

I would give it a 5 just for the fact that this is a good recording of an amazing band - but having experienced the joys of many a Kristin Hersh and Throwing Muses gig, it doesnt quite reach the heights of their best performances. Brilliant nontheless.
